CULTURE: Flowers about 5 months from seeding. Although Ranunculus is fairly easy to flower from seed, it must be grown cool and kept in cool locations (days 60°F/15°C and 40°F/5°C nights) - or the plants will become tall and spindly. This is a pot plant and should not be transplanted outdoors in the summer - it's too hot! Germinate cool at 50-60°F/10-15°C for 14 to 21 days from Sept. to Jan. 15th (the earlier the better). Use sterilized soil with organic matter, not too much peat moss. Sow seeds like pansies, press lightly into the soil keep shaded, cool and always moist until germination. Thin seedlings to 1/2 in./l.5 cm apart, grow at above day and night temperatures. Transplant when 4 or 5 true leaves appear into soil with pH of 5.5 (low salts) in 4 in./10 cm. pots or 3 plants per 5 in./13 cm pot. Spray with a growth retardant B-9 at 3000 ppm. as flower buds appear
