The Sundials have been and currently remain the standard in Portulaca. Large double deep red flowers remain open longer under lower light levels (typically portulaca flowers close at night and on cloudy days). Excellent ground cover and border plant for full sun, well drained areas. Heat and drought tolerant, the plants do not like excessively moist soil. Multi-pelleted seed

GREENHOUSE: Sow Jan. 15th - Mar. 1st for May sales. 1 oz/28 g sows approx. 50 (20x12 in/51x31cm) flats or will direct seed about 1000 (7.5 x 5.5 in/l 9x14 cm) paks. Sow as thinly as possible, press seed in firmly, cover lightly and use warm water. Maintain soil temp. of 70°F/21°C days, 60°F/16°C nights; seed germinates in 3 days, transplant in 4 to 5 weeks. Use a fungicide regularly as it damps off easily. Grow at 60°F/16°C for healthier seedlings. Use well drained sandy soil.
DIRECT SOWING: Sow outside in a warm, dry sunny location about May 20th, as thinly as possible. Blooms one month from seed. Likes poor soil. Thin seedlings 4 in/10 cm apart.
