DWARF MARIGOLD - Semi Double African
Annual Tagetes erecta
Height: 10-15 in/4-6 cm
9,000 seeds per oz./28 g
Germination 3 to 7 days at 75-80°F/24-27°C soil temp
Sow 1/8 oz/3.5 g of seed for approx 900-1,000 plants.
GREENHOUSE:: Sow Feb 20th-Mar. 10th (4 to 6 weeks before selling date) 1/4 in/6mm deep, cover lightly with vermiculite. Germinate at high soil temps (see above) using electric cables, if possible. Transplant into paks or pots about 4 weeks after seeding. Grow plants at a minimum night temp. of 50-60°F/10-16°C. June, July and early August sowing are ideal for flowering pot sales, with initial blooms as late as October.
HOME GARDEN: Sow seed indoors as above in flats or pots about Mar. 1st. Transplant into paks of 4 in/2 cm pots about 30 days later. Most of the varieties in this class will flower 60-70 days form seeding, so outdoor seedings are possible but may be impractical in short season areas. Sow outdoors in rows June 1 (soil temp of 60°/16°C) transplant 3 weeks later 10 in./4 cm apart. Use a systemic insecticide every 15 days after transplanting to control Red Spidermite.
