FOXGLOVE Biennial 5 ft/152 cm
Approx. 130,000 seeds per oz/28g
GREENHOUSE: Sow indoors Feb. 1st. - Mar. 15th. for late May sales. Germinate @ 70°F/21°C soil temp. for 7 - 14 days. Press seed into soil - do not cover with soil, seeds are light sensitive. Keep moist with luke warm water - cold water will lower soil temp. and delay sprouting. Grow seedlings @ 65°F/18°C days and 60°F/16°C nights. Transplant about 25 days after germination into 2 1/4 in/6 cm peat pots for spring sales of green stocky plants. Grow transplants @ 50°F/10°C to prevent soft spindly growth.
DIRECT SOWING: Foxglove can also be sown outdoors about July 15th., in a shady area. Follow above suggestions on seeding. Transplant or thin seedlings to 8 - 12 in/20 or 31 cm apart in mid Sept. Protect young plants against severe winter during the late Fall, with a light straw mulch. Most types flower during Aug. or late Sept. from Spring transplants - or during June - July the next summer from fall transplants. Undisturbed plants will re-seed themselves. Make divisions the following spring. They thrive in well drained sandy soil, and like partial shade. Control red spider. Damp or water-logged locations are fatal.
