CULTURE: For best results, try to provide the seeds with the same conditions they would find in their natural state. Plenty of sun, try to avoid dense shady areas. Choose a sandy-loam soil if possible. Natural rock formations or rough areas should be retained to prevent erosion and provide a more natural setting. Loosen the soil in the seeding area with a hoe - if the area is large use a disc or harrow.

SEEDING TIME is most important! Seed must be sown as early as possible in the spring as soon as the snow disappears. Seed sown after May 15th will adversely effect the survival of some of the hardy perennials resulting in a poor mixture next spring. Late fall (Sept. 15th - Oct. 15th) sowings are also possible, but not as effective as early spring. Scatter or broadcast the seed (just like you would lawn seed) as thinly as possible on top of the loose soil surface. You may wish to mix the seed with fine sand to assure even distribution. Rake the seeds lightly into the soil surface. Do not cover the seeds with soil! If your hose will reach, sprinkle the seeded areas gently every 2 or 3 days until they germinate, or wait for seasonal rains to do the work for you.
