SIMPLY SALAD - WONDER WOKA multi-pelleted blend of Asian greens, mustards, kale & bok-choyThese mixtures should provide 3 or more different seedlings permulti-pellet if planted properly. This means that 3 or more seedlingsshould germinate from each pellet. It is important that you sow sparselyas you do not to want to have to thin and destroy the unique purpose ofeach multi-species pellet. Each pellet contains a well-balanced mix ofdifferent types of asian greens, mustards, kale & bok-choy. Plant 1pellet in 4-6 in/10-15 cm pots; 2-3 pellets in 10-12 in/25-30 cm, etc.No pinching or growth regulators are needed. If sown directly into finalcontainers instead of using transplanted seedling groups, total croptime can be reduced by 7 days. Leaves can be harvested in about 6-9weeks if sown direct into containers, cutting them down 2-3 in/5-7 cmfrom soil level and re-harvested 2-3 weeks later. CULTURE:Multi-pellets are quite small and should be planted fairly shallow –about 3/8 in/1 cm deep into a saturated warm sterile soilless mixture.Cover lightly with vermiculite or the soilless mix, but do not firm. Thelight covering maintains moisture levels, which help dissolve themulti-pellets while letting light pass through to the seed. Spacepellets 4-5 in/10-13 cm apart. Once planted, mist or lightly spray, keeping the pellet moist until it breaks down. Groups of seedlingsshould germinate in 3-4 days @ 65-73°F/18-22°C. Commercial growers mayprefer transplanting 2-3 week old seedling groups from 105/128 cell plugtrays. Additional light for germination is not necessary. As seedlinggroups develop, keep media moist, not saturated as the roots will needoxygen to develop properly. Use a weak fertilizer with a low nitrate andphosphorous level to provide a normal pH of about 5.8 for normalfoliage development. Lower growth temperatures to 65-67°F/18-19°C. Donot allow seedling groups to wilt. Lower temperatures for the final weekof growth (before harvest) – week 8 from direct sowing or week 6 fromtransplants to 62-64°F/16-17°C to slow foliage growth. Additional lightat this point @2500 foot candles (26,900 lux) may help to keep thefoliage upright. OUTDOOR CROPS: For early April outdoortransplants, sow indoors Feb 15th – March 15th. Do not thin! Direct seedoutdoors March 20th through July or by September 1st in the fall. Sidedress foliage groups lightly with a nitrogen based fertilizer 3 weeksafter emergence to promote continual harvesting.
