Bunny Tail Grass (Lagurus Ovatus)
Latin Name: Lagarus ovatus
Item #: 1715
ORNAMENTAL GRASS (Lagurus ovatus)
Annual - 15 in/38 cm
Bunny Tail Grass. (Hare's tail) Approx. 45,000 seeds per oz/28 gr.
Usually supplied as clean seed, without seed shell. Dense woolly heads average 2 in/5 cm with downy hairs. This is an annual grass in most areas, so commercial growers should treat plants as a bedding plant. Plants take 3 - 4 months from seed to full maturity (cut flower material).
CULTURE: Seeds are fairly small (approx. 2,000 seeds per gr). Although seed can be sown indoors Apr. 15th in rows or cell paks for late May sales - most cut flower growers sow directly outdoors May 1st in rows. Germinate at 60°F/16°C for 7 - 14 days. Sow seed as thin as possible, thin plants to 8 in/20 cm apart. Harvest stems about 3 - 4 months from seeding. Both the light green foliage and stems are covered with soft furry down. This species has been cultivated for centuries and produces many attractive terminal spikes of cottony, fluffy heads. Flower (or seed heads) do not shatter with age - so it's a favorite for winter dried flower bouquets.
