CULTURE: Should be sown outside in clumps where it is to bloom, about May 15th. Seed is very fine and may be scattered in groups of 40-50 seeds per group. Try to space the seeds @ 3 to 4 per in/25 mm so that seedlings will not be too spindly. Press the fine seed into the soil surface and do not cover. Seeds germinate @ 65-70°F/18-21°C soil temps. in about 20 days. Thin seedlings 3 in/20 cm apart, about 6 weeks after seeding. Remember you are dealing with a mixture of colors so be careful you do not weed out all the small seedlings which are either rose or white colors. Space plants 16 in/41 cm apart by June 30th. transplanting every other seedling. Mature plants are base branching and need the room. Veronica bloom the following year from late June to August. Choose a well drained soil of average fertility. Avoid damp areas. Plants like full sun, but will tolerate partial shade. Cuttings are easily rooted, divisions should be made every second season to keep plants tidy. Remove seed pods to extend flowering season. Veronica is a fairly good cut flower.
