Zenith Golden Yellow (Detailed Marigold)

(13 in/33 cm) Zenith is about 30% larger in flower size and average about 1 in/2.5 cm taller than Nugget series. Huge golden yellow 3 in/7.5 cm fully double blooms will not produce seed when stressed - so plants continue to flower throughout the hot July and August weather. Average germ. is much higher than Nuggets -80% germ. Seed to sale in 50 days. Detailed seed only. Pkt. contains 25 seeds.

MARIGOLD DWARF TRIPLOID Annual

Height: 12 - 16 in/ 20 - 40 cm 9000 seeds per oz/280 seeds per g. Average germination 80% Germination: 7 to 10 days at 75-80°F/24-27°C soil temp. Sow 1/4 oz/7 g of seed for approx. 900 - 1,000 plants.

NOTE: Triploid marigolds are "artificial" or inter species hybrids produced by crossing a tall African type with a dwarf French type. Triploids are infertile (do not produce seed) and plants are not weakened during the flowering period by normal seed production which causes brief "out of bloom" periods in regular marigolds. This enables the triploids to continue to flower over longer periods and provide a better show of color. Sow indoors in flats or pots April 1st. as above for early June blooms. Due to the price of the seed, it is not practical to sow Triploid types outdoors. Remove off types (see above) and transplant about 3 weeks later into 3 in. pots. Set plants outdoors 8 in/20 cm apart, after night temps. have increased to 48°F/9°C Use a fungicide to control soil diseases and a systemic insecticide to control Red Spidermite. Early flowers may appear to be single or semi double with red markings at the base of the petals. This is caused by temperatures of less than 55°F/l3°C or low light intensity. These tinges of red tend to disappear as later blooms increase in size and double-ness.

COMMERCIAL GROWERS: Sow seed Feb, 15th - Mar. 15th., about 1/4 in/6 mm deep, cover with coarse vermiculite or peat-lite mix rather than soil. Triploids may be seeded 6 to 7 weeks before selling date. Transplant seedlings into paks about 4 weeks after seeding. Remove all "mules" or off type plants before transplanting, they are quite a bit larger than normal seedlings and are easily identified. Lower greenhouse temperatures to 55-60°F/l3-16°C to provide dwarf bushy plants. Seed to sale in 50 days.
