VERBENA

GREENHOUSE: For spring sales, sow from Feb. 15th - April 1st, 1 oz/28 g sows approx. seven (20x12 in/51x31 cm) flats @ 500-600 seedlings per flat, depending on germination. Water flats thoroughly with warm water, use well drained sandy soil or Jiffy Mix. Space seeds evenly, press in firmly and cover lightly with soil. Verbena germinate quite irregularly in 7-20 days and sometimes does better in total darkness. Minimum soil temp. of 65-70°F/18-21°C is necessary, so use bottom heat. Transplant carefully in 3 or 4 weeks. Grow at 50°F/10°C. Use a fungicide regularly and keep in a well ventilated area. Watch out for white fly and aphids.
DIRECT SOWING: Sow outside May 15th. Broadcast seed thinly where it is to bloom. Press into soil and cover lightly. Thin seedlings 8-12 in/20-31 cm apart.
