COREOPSIS
Perennial in zones 6-8
Approx. 103,000 seeds per oz/28 g
GREENHOUSE: For perennial plant sales, sow during the early spring in 2.25 in/6 cm peat pots @ 3 seeds per pot. Press seed into the surface, and cover with fine soil. Germinate in the greenhouse or cold frames @ 75°F/24°C soil temp. for 20 days. Thin seedlings to the strongest seedling per pot. Grow @ 50°F/10°C to prevent soft growth. Move outdoors May 15th.
DIRECT SOWING: Sow outdoors anytime from Apr. to June, as above. Choose light sandy soil in full sun. Thin seedlings to 12 in/31 cm apart. Dwarf species may be used in rock gardens or in groups of 4 or 5 plants as intermediate borders. Plants bloom most of the summer, and self-seed quite easily, once established. Removal of faded flowers eliminates re-seeding, and encourages longer flowering periods. Frequent divisions of large clumps is advisable to keep plants tidy.
