Spiky Blue (Corynephorus/pelleted)

(6-12 in/15-30 cm) Uniform neat tufts of gray-green foliage that prefer sandy soil with little lime and full sun. Sow March 15. Germinate 3 weeks at 65°F/18°C. Crop time 14 weeks. Multi-pelleted seed. Pkt. contains 10 pellets. 

ORNAMENTAL GRASS - Corynephorus

The Corynephorus species is similar in appearance to Blue Fescue, but has upright blue green grass-like foliage. It likes full sun and sandy, well-drained soil with not too much lime. Plants are tender perennials in zones 6-9 with a medium tolerance to hot weather. Plants are earlier to mature than Carex or Stipa types. Crop time 10 to 14 weeks. Generally sold as an annual ground cover in the Northeast and used in formal or informal landscapes, wooded settings, massed beds or large mixed containers. This species is widely adapted to both northern and southern outdoor conditions. For a continuous supply of saleable plants from May to September, sow from December through April and transplant from February through June.

CULTURE:: In the Northeast, sow March 15th into 288 cell plastic trays or 4 in/10 cm pots at 6 seeds per cell or pot to produce a clumping effect. Use a good, well drained, disease free, soil-less mix with a pH of 6 or 7. Press seeds into the surface and cover lightly with vermiculite. Moisten the soil surface thoroughly and cover the containers with plastic, exposing them to normal light until the seeds germinate in 3 weeks. Maintain temperature at 65°F/18°C. Transplant into 4 in/10 cm pots when seedlings are large enough to handle and lower growing temps to about 60°F/15.5°C for a few weeks. Transplant outdoors 12-18 in/30-45 cm apart after all danger of frost. Prefers full sun.
