GREENHOUSE: For early blooms, sow indoors Mar.1st., directly into peat pots @ 6 seeds per 2 1/4 in/ 6 cm pot. Press seeds into the surface. Germinate @ 65 - 70°F/18 - 21°C for 7 - 10 days. Grow seedlings cool @ 55 - 60°F/ 13 - 16°C. Set plants outdoors May 1st. in groups of 12 or more plants.
DIRECT SOWING: Sow seed outdoors in early April in clumps of 30 - 50 thinly sown seeds. Press seeds into the soil surface, do not cover. Thin seedlings when they are 1 in/ 25 mm high to 6 in/15 cm apart. Pick a cool semi-shaded, sandy area where the soil is rather low in nitrogen (poorly fertilized). Plants bloom profusely. Clarkia provides long lasting, decorative cut flowers!
